today when waking my computer up from sleep, i got a blue screen with the spinning pinwheel. i restarted and got the grey apple logo with spinning pinwheel.
i searched the web to try and troubleshoot. so far, i have started up with my mac osx installation disc, and tried to repair with disc utility, only to have it tell me that "1 volume was not repaired" because "the underlying task" could not be completed because it failed "on exit." i tried to reset the PRAM by starting up with command option p r, to no avail. i also tried single user mode, and was going to do the whole /sbin/fsck, but i've been waiting to type in that command, and it's not progressing. the final text i have on my screen is: BSD root: disk0s3, major 14, minor 2 any help at this point would be appreciated. i'm using a PC for this forum, and it's draining the life out of me. thanks! sharon ibook osx 10.4.6 |

Try repairing permissions and then repair the disc. If that fails, it may be time for a clean install. Select "Archive and Install" and let it install a new system. When you reboot all of your stuff will be there and you can just run the updater again.

going to try "reset all" now. i repaired permissions and repaired disk. still says disk couldn't be repaired.
i also started up with my os install, and tried to archive my system folder and reinstall. i did it twice, and each time during the install it said "failed to install, try installing again." anything else? |
