OS 10.4 - PLEASE help me get Mail working

I have a YAHOO.DE pop3 mail address. It is a free service I can access with my Windows laptop. On my Mac it is not possible. I am being continually asked for my password, which I can give endlessly with no results. My yahoo.de mail account then goes offline (no, I did NOT set that to happen. My Web.de mail works fine 95% of the time).
neye: neye: neye: neye:

Second question.

How do I get Mail Preferences to save the passwords for my mail accounts? I have tried Mail>Preferences>(password)>Save 500 times. Each time I close the box after 'saving changes' the password is gone again. I REALLY REALLY did not buy a Mac to have the same frustrations I had with Windows. Yes, my old Windows laptop does access my Yahoo.de mail account problem-free.

I use Yahoo Mail, in the UK sense and it works fine first time. Saving passwords seems to happen automatically here, unless of course they are wrong or the mail account is set up wrong.

Ensure you have entered the details correctly and also that SMTP is accessing the correct port (it is not the standard port 25).

Giving up on MacMail

Well today it got worse. I click on the mail icon and I get the error message: Outbox Renemed. Mail has found an existing mailbox named Outbox. This mailbox is now reserved for Mail's use during delivery. Your mailbox has been renamed 'Delivered'.
And what for goodness sake does all this mean? It means install Thunderbird and say Bye-Bye to my MacMail. And I thought I was away from Windows chaos like this. Sadly the Mac seems to be 'learning' from Gates&Co. The Send Report seems not to be working too. On a Mac that has been 6 weeks in use.
And can I get anybody from Apple to help. Not in a month-of-Sundays. They seem never to look into any forums. They have taken the money and ran. I am Very dissapointed.

Question

Hi,
On my PC I can access and download my Yahoo mail with OperaMail and nMail.
On the Mac I'm using the standard mail client Mail 2.0.7
My web.de mail I can access but I can not save the password in keychain neither by ticking 'Save to Keychain' nor by manually adding it to the Keychain.
When I log into Admium it notifies me that I have mail in my Yahoo account. So there IS a connection to the mailbox from my Mac.
Very confusing!

I also find it interesting that Grabber saves files in .tiff format but these files are not accepted by the forums. (??)

As I have said all along... I CAN ACCESS MY YAHOO.DE ACCOUNT FROM MY WINDOWS LAPTOP using Opera and nPOP so this proves that there IS access to the German version. I just cannot access it on my iMac, neither can I save thge password for my other e-mail account.

If you can do it in Windows, you should be able to do it in OS X

The fact that you are getting these stange folder messages might suggest that there is a problem with Mail (I assume you are using Mail). Have you tried downloading a different email client, such as Thunderbird? (http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/)

Try setting that up to access your pop3 account and see if that works. When I set up both Mail and Thunderbird, the first time I did a Send/Receive or get mail, it would ask for my password, at which point it would have an option to store this in my keychain. That's all you should need to do.

However, please bear in mind I haven't tried accessing Yahoos pop3 and I have heard that they didn't offer it for free in the UK, which is where I am, however if it works in Windows for you then you should have no problems.
