How do you import directly from the Canon HV20 camera to iMovie 10.0.3 in Mac OS X Mavericks?

As it's a tape based camcorder, you need to connect the Canon to your Mac with a Firewire. It should then appear under "Cameras" when you click on the Import icon in iMovie.
