My iMac 2007 (OS 10.9) required authentication for copying filed to my hard drive (name: iMac). I selected "apply to enclosed items" in the info window and then aborted halfway through. Now the computer barely functions, slow, relaunched finder often. I can't even access time machine. Any suggestions?

Reboot holding down Option key. Select Recovery disk to boot from.
Run Disk Utilities from menu. Repair disk permissions.
Don't do that again.

Actually your best bet is a reinstall. You have a backup right?

Thanks, Craig. I was able to restore my hard drive from time mating back a couple of days. This seems to have solved my problem. Lesson learned. I appreciate your help.
