    Mavericks 10.9.2 bug?
I've noticed that anytime I ask either of my Macs to shut down, sometimes they end up stuck on the white screen with the pinwheel, never seeming to shut down at all. I end up having to force off the computer, something I don't like to do.

Is there anything that I can do to try and resolve this, or is this something that Apple will probably fix in a future update?

When you try to shut it done does a window pop up saying a program has prevented shutting down?
Have you noticed this at about the same time as installation of a third party app?

No problems at all with OS X.9.2. What osxx suggests may well be right with something else causing this problem. What have you installed lately?
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

No window pops up - I've installed a menu bar app for monitoring Ethernet status, Pixelmator, OneNote, OneDrive, that's it really.

On an unrelated note: my Mac mini doesn't want to sleep. I was finally able to get my MacBook to sleep when the clamshell was shut, was an issue regarding scheduling.

Perhaps this issue with sleeping is related to scheduling on the mini? I've scheduled it to sleep at a certain time and wake up at a certain time.

If you have external drives, unmount them before you shut down. I have found that Mavericks occasionally hangs up trying to unmount externals for a shutdown, but if I unmount them first, it never hangs.

Do you QUIT your apps before you try to shut down, or just CLOSE them and they're actually still active?
