Printing Very Light and Faded

Hi,

This is the first time that I printed from my Mac and noticed that the quality was poor. I print photos from 'Preview' and when it came out the color was very bad (light/faded and poor definition).

1. My ink is full (all cartridges)
2. When I print from a Windows computer the image was perfect!
3. I tried using a different app, aside from preview, and the result was the same. That is, I printed by importing the image to Firefox and printed from there.
4. I adjusted the printer settings on the actual printer to 'high quality'
5. I fiddled around with the print settings on both Preview and Firefox but it made no difference

Please advise.

Which printer? which driver (find that in Print & Scan prefs)?
Have you adjusted the print settings in the Print Dialog, in the pull-down menu on the lower right side?

Did you install the software from a download or a CD?
This document from Apple shows driver version 10.7.1.0 as the one that gets automatically installed when you add the printer.
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download

I managed to upload a new driver. Same results though. Very strange

Solved!!

For everyone's reference if they ever encounter the same problem:

Despite that I was printing on plain paper, I changed the setting to 'photo glossy' paper and this made the difference.

Make sure you do not have draft mode set as this will give a light gray instead of black.

Cool, thanks!

A couple of questions though...
1. How do a set it so that it is not on 'draft' mode?
2. What is draft mode used for? In other words, why do they implement that mode?

Mine is in printer settings under media quality and its used to save ink .
