I'm a new user to mac's normally a PC person but I have been blwn away with the ease of use, but I am coming across some little things I have taken for granted with PC's.

How to create a shortcut to a folder so that it can be shared over the network.

The folder is on an external harddisk and I want to create a shortcut either to the drive or partcular folders on the drive.

Thanks in advance

If you are sharing to a PC you'll need a third party product. By default when sharing to PC's the only share is the home folder of the user that is supplied in the authentication dialog on the PC side. Even if you were to put an alias (shortcut) of the folder on the external drive in your home folder share, the PC would not see it as a shortcut.

Conversly if you share to a Mac then all mounted drives are available as shares. (go figure) If using two macs connect to the share using cmd + k and enter the ip of the mac you wish to connect to. Once connected make an alias of the mounted network drive to connect to in the future.

I've heard that installing Bonjour for Windows may solve the issue. Third party solution include Dave and PCMacLan. Other free solutions may exist.
