How to transfer files from macbook Pro to Seagate GoFlex 500GB

Hi, can anyone help to guide me how to transfer my files (musics, photos, ect) from my Macbook Pro to my Seagate GoFlex 500GB HD?

Do you want just your files transferred or would you prefer to use it as a time machine backup that will restore your whole mac in the event of a hard disk failure

I think what candydien *means* is that he/she would like to move their iTunes and iPhoto library to an external drive ... is that correct?
