Red face installing os x on ibook g4
so i have this ibook g4 1.42Ghz 512mb ram that had its hard drive go out. the problem is i am now trying to install a fresh copy of mac os x v10.2- when i boot up it shows a gray screen flashing a question mark and mac symbol in a file. i know what this is and i have read all the support articals but i cant follow them due to the fact that it does not do anything other then the gray screen with the file how can i get it to install
also i dont own this mac and i dont own any other macs so mac to mac install is off the table

You need the install disks to run a fresh install

If you haven't got the disks, then you are still in luck. Apple has started reselling Snow leopard (OSX 10.4) on the Apple store

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (UK)

The above is the UK store , but you can find it on the US site

Hey there louishen...sorry to mention it...I think that you have some details mixed up.

Snow Leopard is OS 10.6...and an iBook G4 cannot run Snow Leopard.

Hey man...we know that you meant well. It would be really awesome if the OS install disks the OP needs were still available from the Apple Store!
