Im trying to upgrade my blue and white g3 to panther from 10.0.4. When i boot off of the cd, the installer appears but its all in gray scale. When i boot to the currently insalled version of X the video works fine. What can i do to fix this?

does your B&W have that strange ATI Video card with Video In and out? If so, there is an issue with that card and Panther before 10.3.5 or so where it does that. I was able to somehow install as I know what keys to hit and once it got to the desktop, I was able to install the updates to Panther which takes care of the problem.

Do you have that Video Capture ATI card in your machine?

thats exactly the card i have. i thought it was weird because it wasnt a full size PCI card too. so im going to have to kinda muddle my way through it until i can get it installed and updated?

Oh, btw, what card is that actually. a rage 3d pro or something different?

ATI XCLAIM GA. It came with a lot of B&W G3's that went to some schools. Easiest way is get on Ebay and find a PCI ATI Rage 128. There was a faq on Apple but it's now gone. Looked for it for hours last night and it went to a page that was no longer there.
