Hello,

I just got an older imac off a friend. And it has Linux (ubunto) running on it.
I wish to put OS X Panther 10.3 back on the machine and get rid of Linux.

1. Do i need a firware update? And how do i do that on Linux.
2. Then how do i install OS X

Thanks

You should be able to just stick the Install disk in, shut down, hold down "C" and push the power button. That will boot from the disk and you can install. I don't think you'd need a firmware update because the "boot from disk command" is in the BIOS. (I believe.)

That should do the trick.

I try to Command+Shift+/ when I can.

Thanks for the info.
But I have heard that I do need an upgrade on the firmware

Can anyone else add to this?
And what would happen if I didn't do a firmware upgrade?

Could I just go back and re-install Linux?????

Cheers )

Do you know the exact specs of the iMac? If you can tell me a bit more I could look it up for you and see if it might need a Firmware upgrade. My 333 iMac that i got used a year ago now had the latest Firmware in it so Panther went right in. My old 233 iMac though needed to be upgraded. I need the Specs.
