How do I determing what version of Java my computer is running and what is the latest version of Java to run with 10.5.8?

Mac Specs: 2012 13" MBP (2.5 i5, 8GB)

/Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app will tell you.

I can't remember what version is the newest (and it differs for PPC and Intel machines) but Software Update says you're up to date, you've got the newest version.
