How do you turn off the "p" button's function of pausing and playing audio

I cant figure it out! I looked in keyboard shortcuts but couldnt find it. How do you turn off the pause/play function for the "p" key in mountain lion??

The P key? That's not a standard thing.

Which app are you using?

What happens when you press the P key? I notice you've typed P in you query so I'm assuming it works ok sometimes?

External hard disk acquisition addict - but admitting the problem is the first step to a robust backup

Its universal not just for a single app and the p key does work but every time I hit it my audio is muted.
