Searched for some answers, no luck! May I have a *.dmg (image of existing hard drive)
on the same drive I use for my backups or must I make a partition? Thanks in advance.

What are you using to make backups? Regardless of the solution however, it would be best to have it on a separate partition (and it would be even better to have it on a separate drive).
