Whedn clicking the Appel logo, a menu appears, the first item of which is "About This Mac".

Shouldn't some info be appearing? Nothing at all happens swhen I choose this item...all others work.

When you click on About this Mac, a dialog should appear showing you an image of your Mac with information about how old it is, what version of OS X you are running, how fast your processor is and how much memory you have..

This is the first screen that should show up when you click on About This Mac from the Apple. More info gets you to a more comprehensive screen.

I see you're still in Lion. If you don't see the above, hold down Option and click on the View menu. Select Library. Open the Preferences folder. Find com.apple.systemuiserver.plist and move it onto the Desktop. Restart.

Now see if that Menu item works.
