How can I check my cd player since it won't work and is buzzing, then ejecting cd?

Mac Specs: iMac i5 2.7GHz OS X.9.4 and OS X.10

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Pretty accurate diagnosis right there. One presumes, as you provide no information regarding model or operating system, this is an iMac, MacBook or Mini. These all use slot loading optical drives which alas have a high mortality rate. To get around this and preserve my iMac optical drive, purchased a cheap Samsung USB2 drive for every day use.

It is bootable for DiskWarrior etc.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
