Macbook Pro asks for password frequently?

I'm a fairly organized person so I like to keep my files organized. Unfortunately, every time I try to save to my desktop or create a folder or put a file in a folder, it requires authentication. Is there a way to turn this off? I've looked through all my system preferences, every single icon, and I can't figure it out.

the only thing I can think of is to make sure that your user account has the "allow user to administer this computer' checked

what have the Roman's ever done for us?
