I have a MacBookPro running Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Disc utility verify disk results in "Volume Header needs minor repair/the volume Macintosh HD needs to be reapaired/Error. The underliying task reported failure on exit/ 1 HFS volume needs repair".

Disk Utility will not permit me to repair it. I tried the start up disk to perform repairs however both the short and long searches for problems turned up negative.

How do I proceed?
QUOTE Thanks

Make sure you are booting from your OS disk as you can't use Disk Utility from your Boot/HD to repair itself.

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

This is often the first sign of a failing hard drive, but Disk Warrior ($100) can generally fix such errors, at least long enough for you to backup important files.
