I currently have a macbook pro and would like to buy an iMac. I would use the iMac as my main work machine, but for travel would obviously use the notebook. However, I would need to have the machines synced. Is this possible?

Chronosync would do that

Mac Backup | Mac Synchronization | Mac Bootable Backup | ChronoSync | Econ Technologies

Chronosync is a great app but it costs $40 for the license. I found that it's just as easy to sync between my MacBook and iMac by using "Airdrop". Check out this LINK which shows how to use it on any Mac as long as you have Lion installed.
