hello people im new to the site and my name is richard. im using a an imac w/ a 2.7GHz intel core i5 and a 4 gig memory. the problem im having is that i was in the app store try'n to download a new app it said i needed version 10.7.2 or later and the computer currently has 10.6.8. so i do all the updates but when i try to download the app again it still says i need the 10.7.2 or later. i then go the apple downloads and try to download the 10.7.3, then it says i need the 10.7... so im lost, i've downloaded "macOSXUpdCombo 10.7.3", "Admin Tools 10.7.3"... so what do i do? any help would be nice.

Have you actually paid for and downloaded OS 10.7 Lion...which costs $29.99??

If the "new app" you want to download & purchase requires 10.7.2 "Lion"...the first thing you need to do is upgrade to Lion 10.7 ($29.99)...then update to the latest version of Lion (10.7.3)...which is a free update.

This all assumes that the "new app" you want to download is important enough to do the Lion (10.7) upgrade in the first place.

Yes, you need to pay for the major updates. Major updates are of the 10.x variety (10.5, 10.6, 10.7). The 10.x.x updates (10.7.1, 10.7.2, etc.) are free and provide security patches and updates for the operating system.

It's always best to be as up-to-date as possible on the operating system: you get the latest security and improvements, new software works the way it should (as you've discovered) and you often gain new features (there's quite a few in Lion, particularly iCloud).

Take a look over the features here:
Apple - OS X Lion - The world

You can buy the Lion upgrade directly from the Mac App Store. It installs "in place."
