This has probably been answered already but i might as well make it my first post.

I have recently been giving a mac G5 PPC and i would like to know the following:

What is the maximum memory i can install in to it?
What is the Latest/ best / fastest Graphics card i can install in it?
If this type of mac is going to be able to do any gaming on it?


Specs:
Power Mac G5
CPU Type: Power Pc 970 (2.2)
No. Of CPU's: 2
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
Memory: 2GB
Bus Speed: 1 GHz

Depends on the model. The info given is not enough. Powermac G5's with the specs given can have either a 4gig or 8gig ram max.

Depends what sort of gaming you want to do. But generally speaking (since this is at least a 7+ year-old computer)...and that basically ALL new games require a Macintosh with an Intel cpu (which a Powermac does not have)...I'm going to say gaming options are going to limited.

For example...Don't even think about playing Diablo 3!

How will i find out the model exactly and what the graphics card is?

I was thinking more of Star Wars old republic and maybe a bit of cod or counter strike (anything Steam platformed)

Sounds like i might as well buy a G5 with an intel processor haha

It will do for final cut and photoshop for now though

- Go to "About This Mac" (under the Apple menu)
- Then click on "More Info" in the window that pops up.
- Then click on the headings in the left column in the next window that pops up.

Not exactly! There is no such thing as a G5 with an Intel cpu. The name "G5" is the cpu name in the Powermac G5 name (Motorola PowerPC G5 cpu). Intel...is the cpu type in an Intel Macintosh. So the cpu is either a "G5" or "Intel" (not both).

So what you pretty much want is a Macintosh with an Intel cpu to do "better" gaming on a Macintosh.
