Hello,

I have a problem printing from my iMac (Lion OS X) to my networked Dell 5110cn printer (bought in 2007). Since this is a discontinued Dell printer, I have installed the drivers as per this link: Getting Dell 5100cn to work with OS X Lion*|*cpierce.org

It seems to have installed the drivers on my iMac as I can select the Dell from the printer options list ... I can even see the ink levels on the 5110cn via my iMac when I select 'supply levels'. But, whenever I try to print a file to the Dell it just says the printer is 'busy' and it hangs.

I'm running Parallels on this iMac and I can print to the Dell from my virtual PC okay. In addition, other network PC's can print to the Dell 5110cn, it's just my iMac which 'does not compute'. I can also print to another Dell printer on the network from my iMac but that is b/w. I need colour for my job.

Could it be a Dell printer firmware issue? Or is there a generic/replacement set of drivers that I can use .. even if all the functionality is not available?

Any help appreciated and/or suggestions appreciated.

Dell printers are usually re-badged Lexmark. Go over to the Lexmark web site and look for a similar printer and try those drivers. Otherwise try Gimp.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Printer specs say PCL5e and 6, and postscript 3. There are generic drivers in OS X that will print to that printer without problem. Are you using Bonjour or IP printing?
