Something's up. I see this every 18 seconds: rpc.lockd: can't contact statd, 100024 RPC: Unknown host

In addition, in the Activity Monitor, some kernel task is taking up a lot of memory. I just switchd to Lion in the past 5 days so I wonder if that might play a part.

Copying the error message you posted into Google yeilded results that suggest its to do with an outdated NFS driver.

As OS X doesn't natively support NFS, this would imply that you have at some point installed a third-party NFS solution to read an NFS drive.

If that's the case, might be time to update that driver ...

So, I dont know what a third party NFS might be which means I dont know what I might have made on my computer. What are common ones a Mac user might use? I know that's not the best way to approach the problem but i cant think of another way to narrow it down

It sure does. In fact, support has been around since at least Leopard (I believe). This is one of those nice features OS X inherited from its Unix roots.

Do you happen to access network shares at some point during the day?

I'm not sure what network shares are. I usually am not using wireless with my computer, but sometimes I go over to a friend's house to use it. I have used wireless before from an unlocked network but this problem started about 2 weeks since the last time i did that.

NFS is a file sharing system, that you would use to copy/move/access files with after you are connected to a network using ethernet or WiFi. Folders that you can see using this are called network shares.
