So starting today, at seemingly random times, my 2008 Macbook Pro will crash. When it crashes, the entire screen is splashed with random colors and will sometimes flash...if I had epilepsy this would be an even more serious problem. I cannot do anything while it is in this state other than a hard reboot. Even then, it only starts up normally part of the time. Sometimes my laptop will cooperate and boot up, other times it won't and I will have to try again. When it won't boot, I get the screen where the apple symbol is and the pinwheel pops up and begins to spin normally and then stops and the entire process freezes. I have reset the ram, run disk repairs and permission repairs and everything. I am currently doing a complete erase and install, luckily I was able to back up all my data with time machine. Does anyone know what could be the possible cause and what the solution to the problem is? If anyone knows, your knowledge would be much appreciated.

Running OS X Snow Leopard. Macbook Pro 2008 intel cpu.
QUOTE Thanks
