Very often I will need to make multiple selections in my pictures folder. I know to hold command key to make random selections and to hold shift to select all within a beginning and ending click, however, this doesn't work when the window shows my pictures as icons. I can still select random pics with command key, but how do I make a selection of all within a beginning and ending click? Without having to change view back to list, that is.

Hmm, I never knew the shift+click thing was different in icon view. I always use list...

Anyways, you can either use the keyboard - command+A to select all, or the trackpad/mouse - click outside of an icon and drag to surround all icons. That creates a big "box" outline and it will select all icons within its parameters.

Reminder: Please include your Mac's specs. This will make it much easier for the other members to assist you.

MYmacROX,
Coming back to Mac from PC, this is one of the things I DO miss, other than a few right click items. I remember that in my earlier days with Apple in the 90's, I was able to choose a list with the shift click, whether the items in list or icon mode. Perhaps something Steve didn't appreciate----and considering his genius at knowing what was and what was not needed, I am sure there is a good reason why shift click does not work with icons lists
