Safari 5.0.6 crashes in OS X 10.5.8

I completed an automatic update for Safari yesterday, and ever since then it crashes upon opening. I try to report it to Apple, but the report fails to send. I have downloaded Safari again, but it keeps happening. I am very frustrated and could use some help. Thanks!

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Doubly sure this the version you are downloading direct from the Apple web site:-

Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

Version 5.0.6 was also released for Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Only thing I can think of is to replace your com.apple.safari.plist file.

That's in your home folder / Library / Preference
If you're using Lion, that folder is hidden. I'm not, so I don't remember the instructions I've read for getting there, but it's possible. Once there, move that file to your Desktop and start up Safari again.

I did what you said, but the file 'com.apple.safari.plist' is not there. I am running Leopard.
I am not sure why this would happen with an Apple update.

Thank you for the suggestion. Anyone else?

Since you're running Leopard, the file is there. You're not finding it because you're looking in the wrong Library folder. Click on the white house (your home folder) then on Library, then on Preferences.

You were right. I found it and dragged it to my desktop.

Safari begins to load, but hangs in limbo. It isn't crashing anymore, but it isn't loading completely either.

What is your home page? Maybe there is a problem with that web page and that's why it's not loading on start up. Can you get to Safari Preferences and change the home page as a test?

When it starts loading, it is defaulting to the Apple home page.

Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!*
