I was at 5 to 7 on the DOD erase disk on my 1 tb external hard drive. MY IMAC GOT UNPLUGGED!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE!!! AHHHHHHH!!!! Do I have to start again from square one and go through several days of erasing or can I do the DOD erase from where I left off? Thanks. I just can't believe this.

Yes, you'll have to start over otherwise the procedure won't complete. Why are you using the DOD erase feature? Do you have atomic secrets on your Mac?

Just use the secure erase feature which writes zeros and ones over all the data and free space on the drive. That should suffice unless the CIA or NSA gets hold of the drive.

If your data is that sensitive that you need to perform a DOD wipe, start over from the beginning. Anything less is just opening up legal loopholes should something happen where the drive falls into the wrong hands.
