Can anyone help me to understand exactly what disc arbitration does or how it works? I have lost my recovery partition twice now, have no idea how. Disc arbitration was listed on my Mac book pro system logs, lion op system, and someone said the using disc arbitration could hide the recovery partitions. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well, let's start with this: what third-party disk utilities, or partitions, or Windows VM environments are currently set up on your machine?

Surely you'd know this?

As for your original question, "disk arbitration" has to do with auto-mounting other disks (like when you plug in an external disk and after a moment it shows up on the desktop -- that's disk arbitration). There's someone else in one of the other sub-formums (switcher's, I think) having the same issue ... or maybe that's you?

No, sadly I don't know because I shouldn't have any of those installed or plugged in or however they attach on my computer. I only use the web, no downloads except for pages which I use all the time for school.

I am curious about Windows VM environments though.

And your reply makes perfect sense!! Thanks.. Its just like an external disc is storing all my data on it therefore my recovery partition isn't visible since its being over road by this new disc ..... this is what my computer says,
