Question Questions Re: Upgrading to Lion

    Hello All,

Above, I've included a pic of my macbook's current specs. I am currently running Tiger. Here is how I plan to upgrade to Lion:

    1. purchase Snow Leopard cd
    2. install Snow Leopard
    3. purchase Lion through iTunes
    4. install Lion

    Questions:

    1. Has anyone with a similarly configured mac noticed any performance improvements after upgrading to Lion?
    2. Are there any precautions I should know about prior to upgrading (other than the obvious e.g. back up my important docs, see which apps will work with Lion, etc.)?
    3. Should I format my hdd (I want to start from scratch) before installing Snow Leopard?

All input will be sincerely appreciated.

    Thank you.

I can't see your Lion specs picture. Here are some links to look at regarding suitability of upgrading.

FWIW I don't see any performance improvement in Lion vs Snow Leopard.

    Razormac,

Did you notice any improvements from Tiger to Snow Leopard? Also, would it be best to format my hdd prior to installing Snow Leopard or Lion? Does it matter?

    Thanks for the links.

My own experience: There were significant improvements in speed when going from Leopard to Snow Leopard. (I never used Tiger) However, on a new iMac that came preinstalled with Snow Leopard (just two weeks prior to the release of Lion), I saw no improvement in speed when going from Snow Leopard to Lion.

As a matter of fact (and this is just my opinion) there are some things that I notice with Lion that are slower than Snow Leopard.

    +1 on Chscag's comments

I upgraded to Leopard from Tiger almost immediately so can't give you a reference there. Have to agree that Snow Leopard seems faster to me than Leopard.

And, I wouldn't bother doing a reformat unless you have other reasons for wanting to do a clean install

You can, at least for the time being, jump from Tiger to Snow Leopard and then wait to move to Lion. There's no real reason to wait, except saving $30 for a while, but I'm just saying that a machine of that vintage will work fine with Snow Leopard in the short term.

Be aware that some of your third-party software will probably need upgrading.
