Trash Bin Query

Hello,

Wondering if you can help me here, this is a weird one for me.

I am not 100% skilled in MAC as being a user for under a year now, but i have noticed something odd.

OSX Lion 10.7.2

If I drag something to my trash bin, it always ask me to enter my password to do this, which quite frankly I find a PITA !

Now, for the last few weeks, I have deleted happilly without having to do this but up until last night when I was working, I finished, shutdown machine and went to bed.

Back to work today, and now I am being asked for the password. This happened a few months ago as well, but stopped doing it.

Anyone any idea what is happening? I do not have a secure empty tick in the box or anything, I just dont want to have to put a password in every time I want to trash a document or photo etc !?!?!?

Thanks in advance.

What are you throwing away when this happens? Some files, require elevated permissions to trash.

Tonight is was CR2 files off my Canon digital camera that I had finished editting with. Some JPGs and some PDF invoices. The majority of the stuff I ditch is photographs and files from SAGE that I have been emailing invoices out.

Nothing application wise or anything else like that !

Are you using an admin or standard account?

HairyHaggis 01-20-2012 05:51 PM

admin i think? I am the only user of this machine. How do I check this?

Sorry ... not a pro mac user :(

[edit] sorry just checked system ... i am using an admin account

Ok, I'd start with repairing permissions in disk utility (sorry, on my iPhone so hard to point you to it. It's under applications > utilities)

Doing so now Mike, will let you know the results. Thanks so far :)

HairyHaggis 01-20-2012 06:27 PM

OK thats done now ... there was LOADS of repairs done due to different permissions so it has completed that. I will now try to delete something lol
