imac 10.5.8
macbook 10.7.2

I have removed all nonessential files and apps from my computer with erase & install and also AppDelete.

how do I remove those in system preferences such as time machine, parental control, icloud, mobile me...?

are there any apps which if deleted may have adverse effects in some way?

What is your goal for deleting "nonessential applications"?

Generally speaking...I'm also a big fan of not having unnecessary apps. installed on my computers...but I usually don't like to mess around with apps. that are included with an OS install.

Also...many of these "OS Apps." generally don't take up that much space...so you don't really regain that much hard drive space.

I only asked in case you had a specific reason...such as reclaiming hard drive space.

My main points were:

1. You don't really reclaim that much HD space deleting these apps.
2. If these apps. are deleted/uninstalled incorrectly...this can lead to some issues. It has happened before...so call it the "voice of experience".

Basically the "reward" of deleting the apps. may not be worth the risk of messing things up if the deleting is not done correctly.

You're the boss...you make the call.

The "about this Mac">"more info" button gives a list including "startup". My HP printer (USB) has put two items on this list. Do I need them, and how do I turn them off "

I am running 10.5.8 Thanks, RodC

Which applications caused you problems after deletion? any pointers on other apps which may have adverse effects after removal? any knowledge on removal of apps in the system preferences pane?

you delete anything (if you can) in system preferences, you are on your own. Good luck and you will regret it for sure.

OK. If I decide I want any previously removed default applications back, do you know of anyway apart from reinstalling?

You're chasing your tail. First you want to delete applications...now you're asking about reinstalling them. Just leave things alone...like I've suggested twice in this thread already.

What I meant by the "voice of experience" above is...other members have done what you're trying to do (either on purpose or by accident)...and they just end up with more problems.

Just leave things alone!

p.s. In another thread you mentioned having problems with 10.7 on your MacBook Pro...and wanting to "downgrade" to OS 10.6 or 10.5 (which cannot be done on your MacBook Pro).

Maybe you could/should share with us what these problems are...rather that trying to solve them by "willy-nilly" deleting applications.

I'll reply to this post again. Apparently you do have a reason...you're having problems with OS 10.7 on your Late 2011 MacBook Pro...but as of yet you have not shared these problems with us so we can help!

Agreed with Nick, what issues are you having with 10.7? We can probably help you with your issues.
