in order to install a bootcamp windows version i wanted to divide my hard disk into 2 partitions with osx' disc tool but every time it says "wasn't able to change the partitionlist because checking the filesystem failed" ( original in my german os: "Die Partitionstabelle konnte nicht geändert werden, da die Überprüfung des Dateisystems fehlgeschlagen ist." ). I can't even change the main partitions' size.

I am Administrator and using OSX lion. The main partition is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

This usually happens when:

a. The directory table has some corruption
b. There's not enough CONTIGUOUS free space to make a new partition
c. There's not enough free space period.

Go into Bootcamp Assistant in Utilities and print and read the guidelines. The partition is created when you are setting up Bootcamp, not by the operating system or the install DVD. And to use Bootcamp the drive must be in a single partition formatted Mac OS X Extended (Journalled). You cannot run more than OS X and Bootcamp partitions.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Bootcamp Assistent Exits while creating the partition and leads me to disc utility in order to do this manually.
running "repair volume" did fix it, but now it cancels with "wasn't able to deactivate disk"
QUOTE Thanks
