Yes, I am running Mcafee Antivirus... I will remove it but is there anyway to protect my mac from viruses and prevent the crashing?

There are no viruses in the wild for the Mac. There are several trojans but they can be avoided by not going to nasty or pirate sites. If you must run an AV program for peace of mind, I suggest ClamXav which is not invasive or uses resources such as McAfee or Norton. ClamXav is free.

Okay so I uninstalled Mcafee but my mac still crashed today with this error report... Also how do I run a diagnostic hardware check on my mac because I tried to run it by pressing "D" when my mac restarted but I had no luck.

You run the Apple Hardware Test from your recovery install DVD not from the hard drive. The Apple Hardware Test.

Are you SURE that you PROPERLY uninstalled the McAfee anti-virus program, using the program's own uninstaller?

With system-level apps like anti-viruses, you can't just "drag it to the trash." You MUST uninstall them PROPERLY.

As was stated above, there are no viruses for the Mac, period full stop. Hopefully you did not waste much money on the McAfee.

So what happens if one doesn't uninstall using the uninstall file? The remaining files will corrupt the system? Anyway of uninstalling it after dragging it to the trash?

Hey so I made sure that I used the Mcafee uninstaller to remove the software. Today my mac crashed on me 4 times consecutively... Unfortunately I cannot find my discs to run a hardware test or to even reformat Mac OSX lion... What should I do?

VirusScan 9.0 and 9.1 for the Mac (a.k.a. McAfee Security for the Mac 1.0 and 1.1) comes with a script to uninstall the product. The script is named McAfeeSecurityUninstaller.app and is placed in the /Applications directory right alongside McAfee VirusScan. If you can't find that script, don't worry... the script executes just one command, below. Just open a Terminal window and type:

sudo /usr/local/McAfee/uninstallMSC

...and then press Enter, then enter your admin password, and that's it.
If for some reason you can't do that you can try the steps at:

Removing McAfee antivirus from a*Mac dr2blog

...but that may get ugly really quick.

Probably find your discs and/or take it to an Apple store, maybe they can help you. If the computer is new how come you can't find your disc's. It's a pretty important thing to keep track of?????
