I was wondering what word processing program can I download (free) that will work with OS X lion and also so that the word document can be opened in Microsoft Word on a Windows based PC. Don't need a fancy word processing program, just something clean and easy to use and compatible with Word Perfect. Thanks.

Take a look at LibreOffice. It's mostly Word compatible (I say mostly for a reason since once in a while, things get "lost in translation" so to speak).
