I moved my entire iPhoto Library to a 2TB external HD about six months ago because my MacBook HD was filling up (7,000 photos now). For the last month now, whenever I connect the EHD to run iPhoto it is unbelievably slow. If I simply highlight an area or photo on the program, the spinning rainbow wheel appears (like the system is "thinking") for about 1-2 minutes before the task is completed. As you can imagine, it makes using the program nearly impossible. Any suggestions for improving this? Oh, and there is still 1.77 TB space available on the EHD.

This wasn't a gradual change. It came on suddenly.
