Hi,

A friend of mine got a PowerBook5,6 G4 15ď as a present and it came with a 10.4.11 and he was wondering if he can install windows together with Tiger I told him he must at least have SnowLeopard to install Windows using BootCamp (Am I right?) the problem is, it did not come with any DVDís so the question is I have bought and downloaded the Lion is it ok if I install it in it, and will it work fine, and from where can I have the BootCamp drivers?
btw if I canít install Lion on it I have SL and its not currently installed on any of my Macís can I install it on the powerbook?

PowerBook5,6 G4 15ď

CPU type PowerPC G4 (1.2) 1.5GHz
512MB Memory (Only on slot is used)
74.41 GB HDD

Thanks a lot
Regards,

Actually, the main requirement to run Windows with Bootcamp is to have an Intel CPU, which the PowerBook G4 or G5 for that matter do not have.

EDIT: And, neither Lion or Snow Leopard will run on a G4 or G5 Mac

I've always wanted to be smart, handsome and modest. But, I guess I'll have to be satisfied with two out of three . . .

The G4 is a pretty old system, 2004, and the last OS for it is Leopard OS X.5. He will need the black full retail install DVD, about $100 or a little more on auction sites, and kick the memory up to 1GB.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

id just leave tiger on it. i have a old powermac g4 and finally bought a macpro. im glad i didnt waist the money trying to upgrade my g4. as for running windows on the g4 you can get virtual pc for mac. that comes with some different windows systems on it. i used it way back years ago, but it ran pretty slow on my g4, 533 processor. i still have the disk set, including the key. if your interested in buying it id sell the set for $10.00 plus shipping, which should be under $10.00. its kinda of fun to mess around with. now i have vmware fushion on my macpro and runs as fast as my os system. you can also do searches on running windows on the older macs. im not sure if theres any other systems that will work other than virtual pc but maybe.
