Preview Pane in Mail, OSX Lion

I accidentally lost the preview pane in mail, osx lion. I can't get it back - I've gone to preferences, views, etc. and nothing seems to work. There also isn't a dotted line to double click, as previous forums have suggested. Please help!

Are you using Classic layout or the new Lion mail layout?
