I keep getting this error message popping up but the volume i have os x installed on has close to 4 gigs available. I can only presume that's not what it means.

Where should I be deleting these files from?

Get this app.

JDiskReport

It will give you a graphed view of your HD and where all data is. Just be careful if deleting in /Application or /Library or /System.
