OS 10.2 - quick restore question

Mac Specs: Macbook Pro 2.16, 2gig ram, 120 gig-----Powerbook G3 Pismo 500, 1gig ram, 80 gig HD, DVD/CD-RW

if i restore my OS X 10.2, will that allow me to change the short name?? i bought this ibook off ebay and it still has the other person profile in it and wont let me change it 1 bit. or if that wont work, any suggestions?? thankyou!

Create a new user in the Accounts System Preference Pane. once successfully created you should be able to delete the other account and be prompted to keep his data or delete it as well.
