A little bit of history here..you had Snow Leopard on your iMac before? Your external harddrive was accessible before? You didn't change anything? Are you connecting your external hard drive through a USB or Firewire connection? Is it powered? Do you see/hear any indication that the iMac has sensed that something has been plugged in? If it's USB, does that USB port work for other devices? Does the external hard drive work with other computers?

It does not matter if the drive is external or not and formatted to NTFS it will not mount in Lion
I wanted to attach a drive to my BT hub but Apple say you cannot if it is NTFS

Are you saying that even with Paragon installed, Lion will not write or read an NTFS external drive? I have 6 externals here formatted FAT32, Apple and NTFS and all mount.

I did, in my first post, state 'you cannot mount NTFS without 3rd party prog'

Why are we assuming that the external drive was formatted in NTFS since the OP has said no such thing or that they were even sharing this drive with a Windows PC?
