Hello everyone,

I got an iMac G5 about 5 years ago but didn't have wireless internet then so I just used it for music and all the other apps. But since then I have had a laptop with windows and recently I got out the iMac and reinstalled the os on it and tried to connect to the wireless but it says there is an error logging in. I type in the correct password and everything but it keeps saying the same thing. I have a CenturyLink 660 Series router. I connected the ethernet cord and that works but I want to connect wirelessly so I can put the iMac in my room. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do?

Thanks!

First of all, does your iMac G5 have an airport card installed? If it does, what type of security is your router set to use? If for example your router is using WPA2, the G5 may not be capable of accessing that type of security. The G5 may only be capable of WEP which means you would have to change the security on the router.

I am not really sure if it has a wireless airport card installed or not. How would I check that? The router has WEP security. I am thinking, if there isn't a airport card installed, then the firmware might need adjusted in my router. Not really sure though and I don't have a lot of money to just take it somewehre and get it worked on lol

If your router is set to use WEP, then that's not the problem. It's probably because the G5 does not have an airport card installed. Open up the machine and make sure. You can buy one for that machine for around $65 to $70, or maybe less.
