Snow Leopard issues

I installed Snow Leopard on my Macbook and now I have saved mail missing and am unable to open Word documents. The content is there but isn't when I open it. HELP!!!!!

Mac Specs: Black MacBook 2.2GHz C2D, 4GB Ram - iMac G4 700MHz, 512MB Ram

What exactly happens when you try to open a work document? An error message? Nothing?

The document opens on the stationary it was originally composed on but, the content is missing. There is no error message. Before I open it the content is there.
