    Time Machine and External Drive
I want to back up everything on my computer using Time Machine. I have an external hard drive, but I have some stuff already saved on it. Can I still use it to back my my macbook? There is a lot of room on it, I'm just scared that if I use it with Time Machine that it will delete the pictures and files on the external hard drive.

Time Machine will not overwrite what is already on the drive, however, it's always a good idea not to mix. Keep a separate hard drive exclusively for Time Machine and another for your photos, music, etc. External hard drives are relatively inexpensive nowadays.
