Time Machine Lost in Time

Today I have been trying to back up my mac book pro before i download OS X Lion. This is the second time i have used time machine on this mac. However after three attempts it continues to freeze at some point. The first time it got to 8gb backed up out of 12gb. This time, it is at 383kb -

HELP i want lion now haha

How old is the drive ?
Has it become noisier than usual ?
Have you tried repair disk permission in Disk Utility ?

The hard drive about a year and a half. my macbook a few months.

No it isn't noisy at all.

And I'm new to macs so unsure what that is. Can you explain?
