Is Lion required to use iCloud?
Will all the cloud features work with Snow Leapard or are you forced to upgrade to Lion? I'm primarily concerned with the calendar and photo's going from iPhone to iPhoto.

There is (was) a rumour going around that Apple would release a new update for SL (bringing it up to 10.6.9) which would add support but that's not the case. Apple notes on their iCloud page that, "iCloud requires iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS or later, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2; a Mac computer with OS X Lion; or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 required for accessing contacts and calendars)."

Upgrade to Lion and you won't have that problem. Is that what bothers you or the fact that I'm right?

HA!! Humble are we not today?

I am pretty sure it's Lion only for the full iCloud.

Never! Where's the fun in that?

I see no reason why they couldn't add support to SL seeing as how it is still supported in a limited sense.

I agree but in Lion some things like iCal are totally different. Maybe that is why but it still bugs me as many will be using SL for a long time to come.

The thing that bothers me is the simple fact that, AFAIK, MobileMe worked across more than one version of OS X at a time (never used it myself). It doesn't seem as if iCloud (at least the basic syncing services) are so different to warrant a limitation to Lion users. It doesn't bother me all that much as a Lion user though, haha.

    Even a blind squirrel...

But mostly - I don't want to be forced to update to Lion until I'm ready to.

Difference being, Mobile me was a paid service. It also provided more services than the iCloud offering..

Fair enough but I see little that is a technical limitation. I know what Apple's doing here but I'm of the critical mindset.
