After being a grumpy Microsoft customer for over 20 years, a couple of years ago I bought an iMac. Apple hardware is beautiful, no question. A year after the iMac I obtained a MacBook Air. The downside is that Apple software, except for some user-created apps, is inferior... but the tradeoff was acceptable. When I have to, I use a VM.
OS X Lion is a different story. When I "upgraded" from Snow Leopard, I wasn't surprised to see that many programs stopped working. I am aware that Apple cares little about backward compatibility. But what did surprise me is the instability of the OS. Running the same software I ran under Snow Leopard (and Leopard), I am having system crashes at least 4 times a week, between the iMac and the Air. One crash on my iMac was so bad that eventually I had to reinstall Lion. I really regret having installed Lion, but it is too late now to go back. When I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (what's with the dumb animal names?), I had few problems, except for having to update a few programs. I really did not expect Apple to release an OS as unreliable as Lion. I am reduced to hoping that soon they'll release an update that fixes most of the problems, but I'm not holding my breath. |

![]() As far as the dumb animal names. Well...we've had these "dumb animal/cat names" for over 10 years now...so this is hardly the time to start complaining about them! ![]() I'm also moving your thread to the proper sub-forum...it really has nothing to do with "Apple Rumors & Reports". - Nick - Computer slow, too many "beachballs", read this: Beachballs - Computer seems slower than it used to? I put this post in this sub-forum because there are posts about upgrading or not upgrading to Lion. You can put it somewhere that no-one reads, but it doesn't matter to me. I was hoping someone could learn from my experiences. Sure, you've had the dumb animal names for a long time, but that doesn't mean they aren't dumb. |

But how "dumb" does the person doing the complaining look to others...when they're complaining about something 10 years later...after almost everyone else has accepted the "animal/cat" names??? I suppose you're still complaining that they no longer make DeLorians as well! ![]() - Nick - Computer slow, too many "beachballs", read this: Beachballs - Computer seems slower than it used to? dapple ... you are obviously on a rant. Nobody here is interested in a trolling thread so unless you have explicit questions don't try to start a fire.
Not sure what people in the forum are supposed to comment on the "dumb OSX names" - we didn't come up with them and cannot do anything about it (Btw: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, ... doesn't really make much sense - at least we stick to cats). As for upgrading: There is a rule of thumb if you rely on your Mac for your daily work: Don't upgrade right after a new release comes out. Wait for a couple updates, do your homework by reading through forums about incompatibilities, ... Nobody in the forum here will be able to help you on your rant. If you are really trying to solve why specific apps crash, post names of those apps and describe what happens. Probably more beneficial than your angry posts.

Dumb names? Windows XP. What does that mean? What is an XP? grinIf you are here just to fight, complain or troll, then you will not get much help. Tell us EXACTLY what you are having issues with and ask for help and you might be surprised how quick people will help you. |

Semantics my friend...semantics!
![]() I think that if we took a poll of what other members thought of the original post (complaining vs. commenting)...I'm pretty sure I know which one would win out. ![]() It's not so much how you wanted your post to sound...it's what others think when they read it. That's the beauty of the internet. You need to be VERY skillful in your word choice & word usage...otherwise your message can come across in the wrong way...and say something that wasn't meant. - Nick - Computer slow, too many "beachballs", read this: Beachballs - Computer seems slower than it used to? As was stated earlier are you running apps that are not compatible with Lion ?
Did you update the ones that are (Third Party) ? Without stating the issues with specifics no help can be offered and the fact that a lot of us have upgraded trouble free would indicate the trouble may not be the upgrade. |

And you transferred that grumpiness to Apple unfortunately.
Leopards or other dumb animals do not change their spots! Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer! |
