Hi,

I hooked up my TV to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.6) using a VGA cable today. In the beginning I got a picture, but not a very good one, so I started playing around with the settings. After finding a good resolution I wanted to further improve the picture by changing to a higher refresh rate of 120 Hz. But my TV went blank instead and I since I cannot see the menu any longer, I also cannot set the frequency back to 60 Hz.

When I use the mirror option to display the same picture on both my macbook display and the TV, then I can adjust the settings on my display. As soon as I change the frequency to 60 Hz the picture on the TV comes back on. However, the moment I uncheck the mirror option it remembers the previous setting of 120 Hz and the TV goes blank again.

Is there any way I can reset the macbook's settings regarding my TV, so that it won't remember the faulty 120 Hz any longer?
I have already tried to delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist and reboot, which didn't change anything.

Thanks for your help!

I think a PRAM reset would do that.

If not, then try the SMC reset.

How to will come up as first hit with a google search.

I had tried the PRAM reset before which didn't work, but the SMC actually did it.

Thanks so much for your help, bobtomay!

Good deal. SMC deals with quite a few video issues - would have lost the bet on that one though.
