Hi fellow mac fans
I have downloaded my private key/certificate from the official Danish certificate authority DanID/NemID. It's a .crt file. My certificate is personalized with my full name and e-mail address, and I want to use it sending and receiving digital signed e-mail. When I import it to the key-ring it ends in the System key-chain in the Certificate category and not in the "My certificates" category. I guess that is why I can't sign mail using the certificate. There is no 'icon' to click to use the certificate when I write e-mails. My e-mail is set up using the same e-mail address and name as in the certificate. I'm using Lion. Please, does anyone know how to make it possible to use my certificate for the native email program? Cheers

You can add your personal certificate directly to the "My Certificates" category by opening the Key Chain Access application. Under "Keychains" highlight "System" and click on the lock. Enter your admin password to open the lock.
Next click on "My Certificates". Now click on the small + at the bottom of the dialog and add your personal certificate. You may have to additionally verify it with your ISP but that I don't know for sure as each ISP does things differently. |

I just tried it again on my machine and it works fine even though I do not have any private certificates to add.
Your Keychain may have errors or have some corruption. Try this: From the main Keychain Access menu at the top, select and run "Keychain First Aid". If there any errors, that should correct them. Also from that same menu, try using the "Certificate Assistant" to add your personal certificate. It can also be done that way. |
