I hate to ask this...but have you tried doing a search with Google?

I just did a Google search...and it took less than 5 seconds to get the answer & it was the first hit in the search:

Minecraft

Strangely enough...you download it from "Minecraft.net"!

i have tried to download it from the minecraft website. but after i unzip it and open it up, the only way to play minecraft is if you register an account, which means you have to buy the game.

Ahh I see...that's a bit of a different issue that what your original post implied.

I would assume that if the Minecraft website requires a user to register an account to play it...that there is no free option. If you like Minecraft that much...it probably worth paying for.
