Dimmed Screen Won't Stay dimmed.

I routinely manually dim my screen to black with the F1 key when I walk away from my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8).

But lately it won't stay dimmed. When I come back to it, the screen is slightly lit up again. If i press a button, the screen immediately dims back to black.

I checked in System Preferences to make sure it's set to NOT automatically adjust to ambient light.

Anyone know what the problem is?

Yes - this is a bug that's been around for a while - report it to Apple - if enough people do then it will get fixed.

Just in case anyone stumbles upon this site looking for an answer,

Go to "Energy Saver" in System Prefs
Uncheck "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep"
Done.
